Backyard Treehouse in Manhattan

Melinda Hackett wanted to provide a fun and safe place for her three young daughters to play after they had moved to Manhattan from rural upstate New York.  Once the unique, circular shaped, tree house was completed a disgruntled neighbor called the city to tell them about an unstable looking structure in the Hackett’s backyard.  That set off a legal fight which Melinda Hackett won.  Not only can the treehouse stay, but it has been granted an official permit as part of a district with landmark status.
